Box Score
KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State couldn't overcome six errors as Jacksonville State dropped the Owls, 11-7, at Stillwell Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Owls (4-5), who saw their two-game winning streak snapped, trailed 1-0 early, but answered quickly in the second inning when they scored a pair of runs courtesy of a two-run triple by Andrew Martin.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Jacksonville State (3-4) erased the deficit with a five run third inning, four of them being unearned. The Gamecocks added three more unearned runs in the fourth inning as the Kennesaw State defense committed six errors in the game.
The Kennesaw State offense continued to chip away at the Jacksonville State lead and were to make the score 9-7 before their bats went cold. The Owls went scoreless over the final four innings, getting four hits as Jacksonville State put two more runs on the board in the sixth inning to seal the win.
Matt Dallas had three hits and a walk as his hitting streak moved to 14 games. Adam Cross had a pair of hits and has a 10-game hitting streak. Dallas and Cross are the only two players to have safely in each of the first nine games.
Garrett Bass had four hits and three runs batted in to pace Jacksonville State. Brett Harris picked up the win in relief, pitching four innings and allowing one run on five hits.
Kody Paul was the hard-luck losing pitcher for Kennesaw State, lasting just two and one-third innings. The freshman allowed just two earned runs and three hits before being pulled in the third.
Dan Dale, who surrendered a three-run home run to Allen Rose, did not allow an earned run in an inning and two-thirds. In total, the Owls allowed just three earned runs.
Kennesaw State will head to Montgomery, Ala. on Wednesday afternoon to play Alabama State at Patterson Field.
