KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's basketball team started out slow but finished strong as the Lady Owls downed Longwood, 80-63, on Tuesday night at the KSU Convocation Center.
Kennesaw State (12-15) trailed early in the first half as turnovers once again plagued the Lady Owls. The Lancers (8-21) jumped out to an early lead as led up until Stephanie Scearce drained two free throws to give KSU its first lead at 28-27 with 4:09 remaining in the first half.
The Lady Owls closed out the first stanza strong on the strength of two straight Jennifer Baker baskets and lay-ups from Montinique Nixon and Scearce to take a 37-32 lead into halftime.
The second half was all KSU as the Lady Owls went inside on the Lancers and behind a lay-up from Scearce and a three-point play from Jade Robinson, quickly went on a 5-0 run to open an eight-point lead early in the second 20 minutes.
KSU wore down the Lancers as Rosetta Hollis took over, scoring nine of her game-high 20 points in the final 20 minutes of play. Two consecutive lay-ups from the Fort Benning, Georgia native gave the Lady Owls their biggest lead at 75-54 with 1:29 to go as they cruised down the stretch towards their 17-point win.
Hollis led KSU with her 20-point night and was a rebound short of her fifth double-double with nine rebounds, while Scearce finished with 15 points and Baker with 14. Robinson rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10.
Keiva Small paced the Lancers with 16 points, while Ashleigh Hollman posted 15.
The 80 points scored by KSU was the most since the Lady Owls posted 88 against East Tennessee State back on January 27.
The Lady Owls will close out the 2006-07 season with their last two games at home, beginning with Mercer at 7:00 on Friday night.
