KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State scored six runs in the first three runs as the Owls cruised to a, 7-1, win over the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Owl Classic at Bailey Park.
Kennesaw State (12-5) finished the weekend with a 3-1 record and won the two-day event for their first tournament win of the year. The College of Charleston (6-9) finished with a 1-3 record while Liberty finished second with a 2-2 mark.
April Keasler (2-for-4) continued her hot hitting with a pair of hits and three runs batted in. Freshmen Kelsey Kulk (2-for-4) and Hollie Huffman (2-for-2) each had two hits to pace a 10-hit KSU attack.
Keasler, the Owls center fielder, enjoyed a monster weekend at the plate. The senior had 10-hits, homered twice including a grand slam and drove in nine runs.
The Owls scored three runs in the first inning, the first coming on an RBI single by Jennifer Nolan (1-for-4). Keasler then drove in two runs with a single to center field. A McKee sacrifice fly made the score 4-0.
Malorie Weller (1-for-2) began the third inning with a single then Keasler tripled to right for a 5-0 advantage. Keasler would score the sixth run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Sarah Hesterman (1-for-3).
Missy Hobdy (3-0) started for the Owls and was impressive in 5.1 innings of work. The southpaw allowed just one run in the game while scattering five hits and adding three strikeouts. Norie Glazebrook pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief.
The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Georgia State at 3:00 p.m. at Bailey Park.
