KENNESAW, Ga. - The Owls spotted Liberty three runs in the bottom of the first inning and couldn't get them back as the Flames downed Kennesaw State, 6-2, at the Owl Classic at Bailey park on Saturday evening.
Liberty (4-1) got to starter Norie Glazebrook early with back-to-back singles by J'nae Jefferson (1-for-4) and Dawn Jeffs (2-for-3). An Ashley Williams (2-for-3) double down the left field line made the score 2-0 and the Flames added their third run on a passed ball. Williams would drive in three runs in the game.
Keri McKee (2-for-4) singled up the middle and Jennifer Nolan (1-for-4) followed with a double to left field to cut into the Liberty lead, but Kennesaw State (10-5) couldn't get any closer than two runs as the Flames scored in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 6-1 advantage.
Glazebrook lasted just 3.1 innings before giving way to Janet Kearns. However, the senior also struggled, allowing a pair of runs on four hits in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Meanwhile, Liberty's Sarah Ellis (2-0) was efficient and at times excellent in the complete game win. She did allow the Owls seven hits and walked a pair of batters, but didn't surrender an earned run.
The Owls finished the day with a 1-1 mark while Liberty went 2-0. The College of Charleston finished the day with a pair of losses.
The final day of the two-day event will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Liberty facing the College of Charleston.
