KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's basketball team jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead as they sent their two seniors, Golden Ingle and Brent Ragsdale, out with a win in their final game as the Owls held on to beat Stetson, 72-67, on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Owls closed the first half with a flurry of baskets, capped by lay-ups from Ingle and Shuan Stegall to push the Owls lead to 14.
The KSU lead reached as many as 18 early in the second half after Jonathan Whipple nailed a jumper with 12:52 to go, before the Hatters mounted their comeback. Garfield Balir led the Stetson charge, as he had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the second 20 minutes.
Stetson made it a two-possession game three times late in the second stanza, before clutch free throw shooting allowed the Owls to push the lead back to eight immediately following. Ronell Wooten drained one of two free throws to push the lead back to seven at 70-63 with :31 remaining before Kris Thomas made one-of-two to close the game at 70-64.
Ingle led the Owls in his final collegiate game with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-for-7 from three-point range. Stegall added 15, while Wooten finished with 12 and Ragsdale with nine.
Stetson dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Owls, 38-25. But it was KSU who shot the ball better, finishing the game shooting a season-best 56.5 percent to Stetson's 35.8
Kennesaw State finishes its second year in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 13-18 record and 9-9 in league play. Stetson, who wrapped up the No. 6 seed in next week's conference tournament closes out the regular season at 11-19 and 6-12 in the A-Sun.
