KENNESAW, Ga. - Ronell Wooten scored a game-high 19-points and Shuan Stegall recorded a double-double as Kennesaw State pounded Mercer, 87-51, on Thursday evening at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Owls (12-18, 8-9 A-Sun) snapped a three-game losing streak as they dominated Mercer, who was playing without their three top scorers, James Florence, Shaddean Aaron and Hrvoje Pervan. The trio missed the game due to a suspension handed down by Mercer after an altercation at the close of the Jacksonville game.
Kennesaw State placed four games in double-figures including Keonte Keith (5-for-9) with 12 points (12 points) and Golden Ingle (4-for-9), who scored 11-points and added nine assists. Stegall (7-for-16) finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Brent Ragsdale (3-for-8) scored the games first points and Kennesaw State never trailed the out-manned Bears. A dunk by Jonathan Whipple (4-for-6) with 12:46 left to play in the half gave the Owls a 10-point lead and KSU never saw their advantage dip into single digits the rest of the night.
Nobody on the Owls roster played more than 24 minutes in the game and 10 of the Owls 11 players scored as head coach Tony Ingle's squad enjoyed their largest margin of victory this season.
Sam Dolan and Brian Pfohl each scored 12 points for the Bears. Dolan also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, one of the very few bright spots for Mercer.
After building an 18-point halftime lead, the Owls quickly erased any hopes of a Mercer comeback as they began the second half on a 16-0 run. The Bears did not score their first points of the half until the 13:19 mark when Brendan Walker (1-for-3) hit a three-pointer, his only points of the game.
The Owls will conclude the 2006-07 season on Saturday afternoon when they host Stetson on Senior Day. The tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with a pre-game ceremony honoring seniors Golden Ingle and Brent Ragsdale, taking place before the game.
