Purple Rain...Evansville Rallies Past KSU

KENNESAW, Ga. - Twice Kennesaw State led by two runs, but each time the Owls let Evansville back in the game as the Purple Aces came from behind to upend KSU, 7-5, at Bailey Park on Saturday evening.

Evansville used a four-run sixth inning to come from two runs down and give the Owls their second loss of the season and their first at Bailey Park this year.

Liz Mooney hit her second run of the game after Krista Price reached on an error when Amanda Malcom and Klair Wells collided behind second base on a routine pop up. Brittany Matthews, the Owls starter, exited in favor of Norie Glazebrook, but the Owls reliever ran into quick problems.

Brittany Herald singled and Amanda Ockomon delivered an RBI-tripled to right center field. Laura Rather promptly singled up the middle for a two-run lead.

Kennesaw State (7-2) jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning when April Keasler ripped a two-run triple to right center field scoring Megan Gant and Sarah Hesterman.

Evansville (2-0) tied the game in the second inning when Cassey Kemner singled and was moved to second on a bunt. A single by Ashley Werner was misplayed by Sarah Hesterman and Kemner scored to make the score 2-1. Kristen Shirk then followed with a single to center field and the Purple Aces knotted the game.

Liz Mooney, who would be a thorn in the Owls side all game, homered down the left field line for a 3-2 lead.

The lead held until the bottom of the fifth inning when Amanda Malcom led off with a single up the middle and Klair Wells doubled down the right field line. Keri McKee then followed with a single through the right side to extend her hitting streak to nine games and tied the game at three. After a walk to Malorie Weller, Gant walked and an out later Norie Glazebrook singled up the middle to give the Owls a 5-3 advantage.

The Owls will play Miami (Oh.) 2:00 p.m. and Georgia Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday as the two-day, 10-game event concludes with five games beginning at 10:00 a.m.
