KENNESAW, Ga. - The Owls spotted Georgetown two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Sarah Hesterman's RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning lifted Kennesaw State to a, 3-2, win over the Hoyas in the first game of the Owl Classic at Bailey Park on Saturday morning.
Malorie Weller led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle and Kelsey Kulk, who pinch ran for Weller, moved to third on a pair of wild pitches Georgetown's Connell. After an out, Hesterman roped a three-bagger to right field for the go ahead run.
Norie Glazebrook got the final out to record the save for Missy Hobdy, who relieved starter Janet Kearns. Hobdy pitched 6.1 innings of excellent relief. The senior allowed just three hits and struck out five in earning her second win of the young season.
Kearns did not make it out of the first inning as she was removed in favor of Hobdy after getting just one-out and allowing a pair of runs. Hobdy induced a pair of groundouts to end the inning and keep the game within reach for the Owls.
The Owls (7-1) got a run back in the third inning when Keri McKee doubled in Klair Wells with one out. McKee extended her hit streak to eight games after a first inning double.
Trailing in the sixth inning, Glazebrook led off the frame with a double to right center field. With Kelley Cowart as a pinch runner, Amanda Malcom followed with a single before Wells singled to left field to tie the game. Wells had her six-game hitting streak end in yesterday's second game against Army.
Kennesaw State had eight hits in the game with four being extra base hits. McKee had a pair of doubles with Glazebrook adding a two-bagger and Hesterman's triple.
