STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's Kelli Miller gave Kennesaw State its first loss of the young season as she blanked the Owls, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon at the MSU Softball Field in the second day of the 2007 Bulldog Round Robin Softball Tournament.
Mississippi State (3-0) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when they scored a two-out run off Owls starter Norie Glazebrook. After two were out, Glazebrook hit the Bulldogs Hayle Guess with a pitch. Guess then stole second and scored on a single to center field by Courtney Bures.
The Bulldogs would add a pair of unearned runs in the third inning before putting the game out of reach with a three-run sixth inning. The big hit in the sixth inning came on a two-run triple by Nakita Boyce.
Miller allowed just four hits in the game and didn't allow a hit until Megan Gant singled to leadoff the fifth inning. The Owls (3-1) got two hits from Gant, who also singled to lead off the seventh inning. Keri McKee and Klair Wells had singles in the sixth inning.
Glazebrook pitched five innings and allowed one earned run on eight hits. Janet Kearns pitched the sixth inning and allowed three earned runs on two hits.
The Owls finish the round-robin event on Sunday morning when they play Iowa State at 10:00 a.m.
