KENNESAW, Ga. - Jennifer Baker scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season as Kennesaw State downed Gardner-Webb, 67-49, on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Lady Owls (10-13, 6-7 A-Sun) controlled the game from the outset and built a 15-point, first-half lead before the Bulldogs made their lone run of the afternoon, an 11-0 spurt, to end the first half and pull to within four points of Kennesaw State.
The Lady Owls broke the Gardner-Webb momentum with a quick basket by Stephanie Scearce to begin the second half and the Lady Owls had a six-point lead. The Kennesaw State lead would not dip below four points, as the Bulldogs (9-15, 6-7 A-Sun) had no answer for Baker.
In addition to her points and rebounds, Baker had four steals, three assists and a pair of blocks and was the game maestro for Kennesaw State.
In the second half, Gardner-Webb crept to within six points on a Candyce Kelly three-pointer with 6:29 remaining. However, Baker quickly and furiously doused the brief crest of momentum by Gardner-Webb.
The KSU sophomore drained a three of her own 10 seconds later and on the next possession grabbed a defensive rebound and soared the length of the court to push the lead to 11 points and put the game out of reach.
Jade Robinson scored 13 points for the Lady Owls and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. Scearce added 11 points with Gia Lockett had eight points and added five rebounds. Gardner-Webb's Shameka Smith had 18-points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds while Brittany Harmon scored 13 points and snatched eight rebounds.
Kennesaw State will be back in action on Thursday evening when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to play rival North Florida at 7:00 p.m.
