NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Kennesaw State held a one-point lead heading into halftime but a 13-0 run by the hosts doomed the Lady Owls as they fell at Lipscomb, 68-57, on Thursday night at Allen Arena.
KSU (8-12, 4-6 A-Sun) led 33-32 heading into the break after Jennifer Baker converted a wide-open lay-up with six seconds left in the first 20 minutes. The Lady Owls had been down by as many as six early in the game but battled back within distance of the Lady Bisons.
Lipscomb (6-14, 4-6 A-Sun) came out of the gates strong in the second half as they put together the 13-0 spurt from which KSU never recovered. The Lady Owls did their part to fuel the fire as they missed their first six shots in the second half and finished the game shooting just 27 percent (21-of-78).
Julie Martin and Jilian Partian started the second-half borage as they hit back-to-back lay-ups to put Lipscomb up 36-33 with 18:30 to go. Baker missed her next three shots for the Lady Owls and before they could blink an eye, KSU trailed 45-33 after a lay-up and three-pointer from Dana Carrigan and an easy put in by Penny Jones.
The Lady Owls cut the lead to eight at 62-54 with 1:31 left after Baker connected on a lay-up, but that was as close as KSU would get as Lipscomb made key free throws down the stretch to hang on for the victory.
Baker posted her third straight double-digit game with 15 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. Montinique Nixon and DeAndrea Bullock each scored nine points for the Lady Owls.
Partin paced the Lady Bisons with a game-high 16 points, while Catie Woods added 14 and Carrigan 13.
Lipscomb shot 47 percent from the floor but was only 2-of-13 from three-point land.
The Lady Owls will be back in action when they take on Belmont on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. (EST)
