KENNESAW, Ga. -- Shuan Stegall led the Owls with 17 points as Kennesaw State's men's basketball team defeated Clark Atlanta 69-62. Stegall led the balanced attack, as the Owls had five players score in double-figures.
"Considering we had gone two weeks without playing, I was concerned about how we would execute on offense," said KSU head coach Tony Ingle. "The guys came through and performed well for each other."
Leading 34-28 after the first 20 minutes, KSU saw the lead evaporate quickly in the second half as the Panthers went on a 10-2 run to take a 40-38 lead. The CAU lead would be short-lived, as Ryan Daugherty scored the next five points, sparking a 14-0 run to give KSU a 52-40 cushion.
With 8:30 to go, an alley-oop dunk by Ronell Wooten off a feed from Stegall gave KSU its largest lead of the contest at 14, 56-42. Clark Atlanta would chip the lead down as low as six points, but the Owls won the game via clutch free throw shooting. KSU went 12-of-14 from the charity stripe in the second half and Stegall led the charge with a 7-for-7 performance for the game.
Daugherty had a new career-high with 15 points for the contest. Jon-Michael Nickerson set a new season-high with 10 points, while Tanner Jacobs netted 10 and Wooten tallied 12.
The Owls were out-rebounded 44-27 by the Panthers. Ale Burt converted a double-double with a game-high 13 points and 15 rebounds, with Kevin Johnson leading all scorers with 25 points.
"The thing we really need to work on is rebounding," said Coach Ingle. "I still feel proud about how the team played tonight. We were faced with some adversity but we stayed composed and came out with a victory."
After waiting two weeks between games, the Owls will only have to wait until this Tuesday for their next challenge. KSU will take on Maryland-Eastern Shore at 7:00 p.m. in Princess Anne, Md.
