KENNESAW, Ga.--Kennesaw State led by 17 at the half, but the Owls shot 23 percent from the field in the second half, falling to hot-shooting Florida A&M on Saturday night at the KSU Convocation Center, 86-79.
Shuan Stegall had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Ronell Wooten netted 28 points, including four three-pointers. But the Black and Gold hit on just 7-of-30 from the field in the second half, while the Rattlers connected on 17-of-29 (58.6 percent).
The Owls led by as many as 19, as Wooten hit from long-distance with 40 seconds left in the first half to give the home team the lead, 50-31. But KSU saw its lead slowly get whittled away in the second half as the Rattlers went on a 25-10 run to pull within two, 60-58.
Kennesaw State struggled from the foul line in the second half, hitting on 13 of its 21 attempts. Florida A&M went 15-of-19 (78.9 percent) to help close the gap on the scoreboard.
The Owls were out-rebounded by FAMU, with both teams earning 16 offensive rebounds but FAMU getting 28 defensive rebounds, compared to just 20 for KSU.
Leslie Robinson led the Rattlers with 22 points, including four made three pointers. Lamar Twitty had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
KSU will have a long time to dwell on the loss, not returning to action until December 8 when it will play host to Clark Atlanta. Game time at the KSU Convocation Center is slated for 7:30 p.m.
