LUBBOCK, Texas - The Kennesaw State women's basketball team fought hard but was over-matched against the more powerful Texas Tech Lady Raiders as the Lady Owls fell 78-56 in the second round of the Basketball Travelers Classic on Friday night at the United Spirit Arena.
Texas Tech was able to force 14 KSU (3-3) turnovers during the first half, which they were able to convert into 20 points. Despite the sloppy play, the Lady Owls went into halftime trailing by just five points, at 40-35, as Greteya Kelley hit a jumper at the buzzer.
The Lady Raiders (6-0) defense highlighted the second half as they held Kennesaw State to 33 percent shooting and forced 23 turnovers for the game. Tech dominated the paint in the second half as they scored 26 points, led by junior Dominic Seals' 12 second half points.
TTU exerted its strength in the second half, scoring the first seven points after Seals' lay-up with 17:08 to play. Britteny Henderson hit a jumper of her own to briefly stop the run, by Tech quickly returned the favor by notching the next points to put the game out of reach.
Kelley led Kennesaw State with 15 points and Britteny Henderson grabbed 12 boards and scored nine points. Gia Lockett and DeAndrea Bullock each had eight points, while Jennifer Baker scored seven.
Seals paced the Lady Raiders with 18 points, while Erin Myrick scored 15 and Maria Moore had 13.
The Lady Owls will conclude the tournament by playing Idaho State on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
