Lady Owls Celebrate Thanksgiving with 57-43 Victory

LUBBOCK, Texas - Britteny Henderson scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season and lead Kennesaw State to a 57-43 win over Alcorn State in the first game of the Basketball Travelers Classic on Thursday night.

Despite only shooting 8-of-32 (.250) from the floor in the first half, the Lady Owls took a 24-18 lead into halftime backed by six points from Greteya Kelley and five from DeAndrea Bullock. Clutch free throw shooting allowed KSU to lead through the first 20 minutes as the Lady Owls went a perfect 6-of-6 form the charity stripe.

KSU started the second stanza where the first left off, scoring the first six points before ASU's Kiara Seldon converted a lay-up to pull the Lady Braves (0-1) back within 10 points at 30-20 with 17:21 to go in the game. Henderson stepped up her game in the second half, scoring 10 points and pulling down nine rebounds, to twice help the Lady Owls extend their lead to 14.

Alcorn State drew within nine points with 6:10 to go when Lillian Marshall scored a fast break lay-up but that was as close as the Lady Braves would get as the Lady Owls scored 11 of the final 16 points of the game to cruise to their third win of the season.

Kelley led all scorers and KSU with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field, while Marshall and Shawntawnee Collins led Alcorn State with nine points apiece.

The Lady Owls forced a season-high 36 turnovers to which they turned into 32 points.

KSU will continue the Basketball Travelers Classic tomorrow as the Lady Owls take on host Texas Tech at 8:00 p.m.
