Building Momentum One 'Brick' at a Time

MACON, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's golf team made the biggest move of the day on Monday at Mercer's Brickyard Collegiate Championship, firing a five-under par 283 to move from 12th to a tie for seventh place after the second round of play at the Brickyard at Riverside golf course.

The Owls rode the momentum of three under-par rounds to post the fourth lowest score of the day and move into a tie with Middle Tennessee State, just eight strokes out of the top five going into the final round at the par-72, 7,155 yard course.

Michael Tulacz again led the Owls, moving up 13 spots on Monday to finish tied for 10th after two rounds. The 12th rated golfer nationally by Golfstat.com, recorded five birdies and only one bogey to card a four-under par 68. The 68 is the third under-par round in five attempts for the junior from Connelly, N.Y.

Wesley Sheard shot a two-under par 70 while Chris Johnson posted the Owls third under-par round of the day with a 71. Sheard recorded a birdie and an eagle on his first nine holes to get out to a strong start and then proceeded to combine one bogey with eight pars on his final nine to move into a tie for 32nd after day two. Johnson rebounded after a shaky first day, birdying two of is final four holes, to move from the basement to a tie for 64th.

Bryan Alred played the Owls final qualifying round, shooting a two-over par 74 to move from a tie for 62nd to a tie for 53rd at +8.

The University of Georgia squad is the team leader after leapfrogging day one leader Clemson with a second-round 273. The Bulldogs are looking to make it a clean sweep as Brian Harman took over the individual lead from teammate Harris English with a six-under 66.

The final round will get started at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and the Owls will be paired with members of Akron and Middle Tennessee State. Alred will lead the Owls out of the gates, teeing off at 9:20 a.m. followed by Sheard at 9:30 a.m. and Tulacz at 9:40 a.m. Johnson will tee-off at 10:10 a.m. and Oliver West will round-out the action at 10:20 a.m. The tournament will wrap-up with an award ceremony following the final round on Tuesday.
