AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team, led by Abby Fitzgerald's 13th place individual finish, placed fifth at the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational hosted by Augusta State University at the 6,123-yard, par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. over the weekend.

Fitzgerald (78-79=157), who recorded the Owls top finish for the second time this season, was second in par-four scoring (+3) and eighth in pars made (21) out of the 27 golfers in the five team field. The sophomore from Lee County High School also led Kennesaw State with a ninth place finish at the season-opening Draper Intercollegiate Invitational.

The Owls (333-323=656), like much of the rest of the field, had difficulty getting things going on the course that surrendered only one under-par round and where the champions finished 24-over par. The individual champion, Lliska Verwey (74-70=144), recorded the lone sub-par round after firing a second round 70 to lead Georgia State (304-296=600) to the team title.

"The conditions were very nice, but the course proved to be incredibly difficult as evident by the overall scores," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead on the unusually high scores at the tournament. "We never got into a rhythm and failed to execute shots which cost us in the end."

Laura Lindsey (85-78=163) also finished in the top 20, earning a tie for 18th after carding the Owls second-round low score. Chelsea Bonk (86-83=169) and Lindsay Hagerman (86-83=169) tied for 24th while freshman Jessica Tarbet (84-87=171) finished 26th.

"We looking forward to the Furman tournament this weekend," added Brinsmead on KSU's next event. "It should give us a chance to rebound and prove that we are better than we played in Augusta."

The Owls will travel to Greenville, S.C. on Thursday to participate in the Lady Paladin Invitational on October 19-21 at the Furman University golf course. The three-day event will begin on Friday morning with a shotgun start and will conclude on Sunday with an award ceremony following the final round.
