KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State had five players score in double-figures and pulled ahead with a late second-half rally as they won for the first time at home, defeating Lipscomb, 82-71, at the KSU Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon.
In a tooth-and-nail battle for the 27 minutes, that saw five lead changes and four ties in the second half, the Lady Owls (6-8, 2-2 A-Sun) used a 7-0 run and an 8-0 run in a six-minute span to build a nine-point lead with 8:28 left to play as they held off the Bisons.
Jade Robinson (4-for-8) ignited the rally with a traditional three-point play and scored five straight points before Rosetta Hollis (6-for-8) ended the Lady Owls first run with a strong lay-up as Kennesaw State built a 50-43 lead.
After a mini 4-0 run by Lipscomb (3-11, 1-3 A-Sun), Kennesaw State took off again as Hollis scored four straight points and Montinique Nixon (5-for-10) and DeAndrea Bullock (2-for-8) followed with baskets as KSU built an 11-point lead with just over eight minutes left to play.
The Owls would allow the Bisons to creep within six points after a Julie Martin (2-for-7) three-pointer made the score 69-63 with 2:08 left to play. However, 10 straight free-throws down the stretch gave the owls their first win at the Convocation Center this season.
Jennifer Baker (6-for-12) led the Owls with 17 points off the bench. Stephanie Scearce added 15 points, Robinson chipped in 14 points while Montinique Nixon had 10 points of f the bench. Catie Woods (8-for-17) scored a game-high 21 points for Lipscomb while Penny Jones (6-for-14) added 16 points.
The Lady Owls will be back in action when they hit the road for a Thursday night clash with Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
