Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - The visiting Belmont Bruins used a 28-7 run over the final 11 minutes to give the Bruins a come-from-behind win over Kennesaw State on Thursday evening at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Lady Owls (5-8, 1-2 A-Sun) looked impressive for three quarters of the game and were able to shut down Alysha Clark (5-for-6) and the first-place Bruins. However, a trio of three-pointers early in the second half ignited Belmont as they stayed atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings.

After leading by eight points at the break, Kennesaw state scored five of the first six points of the second half to take a 30-19 lead with 17:10 left in the game. Belmont (10-4, 3-0 A-Sun) then roared back with an 11-2 run that began and ended with Laura Cowley (2-for-6) three-pointers as Belmont trimmed the lead to 33-30 with just under 15 minutes left in the game.

Rosetta Hollis (6-for-15) rattled off five straight points and Gia Lockett (3-for-10) hit a short jumper to build the KSU lead back to seven points but the momentum had began to turn towards the Bruins.

Holding an eight-point lead with 11:26 left, the Bruins went on a 12-0 run to go up 46-42 with 8:00 minutes remaining. A jumper by DeAndrea Bullock (2-for-5) ended a four minute drought with a field goal and brought the Lady Owls to within a basket at 46-44, but that was as close as Kennesaw State would get the rest of the game.

Kennesaw State, who played valiantly throughout the game, were doomed by a 32 percent shooting night from the field including a dismal 1-for-10 in three-pointers.

Clark, who was held to just two points (two free-throws to start the game) in the first half, scored 10 of the final 16 points and Shaunda Strayhorn scored the other six for Belmont as the Bruins pulled away.

The Lady Owls led 26-18 at the half on the heels of Stephanie Scearce's (5-for-11) 10-points and five rebounds. The dominating redshirt sophomore was the focal point of the Lady Owls in the paint. Scearce, who would finish the game with 12 points, connected on half of her eight shots in the first half as KSU had as much as a 12-point lead.

Hollis led all scorers with 15 points while Scearce added 12 for KSU. Clark had 14 and Strayhorn added 13 to pace the Bruins.

The Lady Owls will continue their brief homestand on Saturday afternoon when they host the Lipscomb Bisons at 2:00 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center.
