KENNESAW, Ga. - Rosetta Hollis tied a career-high with 22 points, including a key basket in the extra frame, as the Lady Owls held off North Florida, 73-68, in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
In a back-and forth affair, UNF (3-14, 2-5 A-Sun) fought back from down as many as eight points midway through the second half. The Lady Owls (8-10, 4-4) and the Lady Ospreys played through five ties and 10 lead changes over the final ten minutes and overtime before KSU hit 4-of-7 shots from the field in the overtime period to climb back to .500 in the conference.
Hollis, who posted her third straight double-digit performance, had a chance to break a 58-58 tie but missed the back end of a one-and one with 1:45 left in regulation. But after UNF's Denisia Andrews missed the first shot of her own one-and-one, Montinique Nixon gave the Lady Owls a 60-58 lead after sinking a jumper in the paint with 1:15 to go.
A Jennifer Guldager jumper tied the game at 60 apiece with eight seconds remaining, giving KSU one last chance to when the game in regulation. But an Ashley Johnson turnover with 2.1 seconds remaining gave the Lady Ospreys a final chance of their own. Jennifer Bowen gathered the inbound and drove the length of the court, but her 22-footer just rimmed out forcing the extra five minutes.
The Lady Owls seemed to be energized heading into the extra period and came out on a 10-2 run over the first three minutes, capped by a jumper from Nixon. Cecilia Woolfolk drained a three to pull the score to 70-65. But that's as close as UNF would get as KSU sank enough of its free throws in the final minute to secure the five-point victory.
KSU will return to the court next Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when the Lady Owls host East Tennessee State at the KSU Convocation Center.
