Solla, Waters Pace Owls at UNC Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Peikko Solla and Jason Waters led the way for the Kennesaw State men's track team as the combo finished in first and second respectively in the 5,000-meter run at the UNC Opener on January 13.

Solla took the title after crossing the finish line in 15:34.44, while Waters was a little more than a second behind at 15:35.62. The duo finished just ahead of fellow A-Sun trackster Ken Eichberg of Campbell, who finished third in 15:35.64.

Devin Jones and Terrence Hooks both performed well in the 60-meter hurdles as each advanced to the finals, where they finished eighth and ninth respectively in 8.49 and 8.57.

Also finishing in the top ten in their respective events was the 4x400 Relay team of Deji Famuyiwa, Ben Gray, Justin Jeter and Jones, who took ninth with a time of 3:31.50 and Max Ndungu, whose time of 9:03.58 was good enough for 10th place in the 3,000-meter run.

Scott Phillips (800m - 2:02.48) and Brett Luna (Mile- 4:40.97) also finished inside the top ten, while in the field events, Aymerick Kolokilagi took third in the weight throw with a distance of 14.68m (48'-02.00").

The Owls will take a week off before returning to the track on January 26 when they travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to take part in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by ETSU.
