CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Soibhan Wolcott led the way for the Kennesaw State women's track team as she won the Mile Run at the UNC Opener on January 13.
Wolcott captured first place by more than four seconds over fellow A-Sun distance runner Charlotte Farquharson of Campbell. The Owls freshman finished the race in 5:23.34. Caitlin German took fifth in the event with a time of 5:37.53.
The Owls showed well in the 800-meter run having two athletes finishing in the top 10. Jackie Keefer led the way with an eighth-place time of 2:28.81, while German was right behind in ninth, crossing the line in 2:29.28.
Britany Reilly turned in a powerful performance in the 5,000-meter ruin as the freshman took second place with a time of 18:56.85, while Tara Mooney finished ninth in 19:57.17.
Other performances of note included the seventh-place finish by the 4x400 relay team of Sandi Brown, Shantela Davis, Lakeshia Stinson and Wolcott with a time of 4:07.71 and Davis' 11th place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 10.86m (35'-07.75").
The Owls will take a week off before returning to the track when they travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to take part in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by ETSU.
