BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Rosetta Hollis scored a team-high 19 points as Kennesaw State defeated Campbell for the first time in a dominating, 82-68, win over the Lady Camels on Saturday afternoon at Carter Gymnasium.
The Lady Owls (7-9, 3-3 A-Sun) led from the opening possession and never trailed as they built an eight-point lead in the first three minutes and never looked back. The loss was the sixth straight for the Camels.
Hollis, who suffered through a 3-for-13 shooting night against Gardner-Webb on Thursday, was once again back on track as she another dominating performance for the Lady Owls. The true freshman scored 18 points in the second half as she on 7-of-8 shots from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line.
Sharp-shooting sophomore Jennifer Baker (5-for-11) nailed four three-pointers and registered a double-double with a 17-point, 10-assist effort while Jade Robinson (5-for-10) chipped in 13-points including a trio of three-pointers.
After leading by as many as 24-points with 9:09 left in the game, Campbell (3-12, 1-4 A-Sun) was able to trim the KSU lead to 14-points at 77-63 after Letitia Dickson (8-for-11), the games leading scorer with 22-points, hit a three-pointer with 2:24 left but could never get as close as 13-points in the second half.
Kennesaw State built a 20-point lead at halftime before cruising in the second half. Stephanie Scearce (4-for-10) and Montinique Nixon (3-for-5) each added nine points.
Ashley Johnson (3-for-7), who had been in shooting slump, broke out with a nine-point performance. The sophomore guard had an excellent all around game as she added five steals, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Lady Owls shot 46 percent from the floor and put together two solid shooting halves, hitting on 47 percent in the first half and 45 percent in the second half.
The Lady Owls will be back in action on Thursday, January 18 when they open up a three-game homestand against Jacksonville. Tip-off at the KSU Convocation Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
