Box Score

DeLAND, Florida - The Kennesaw State women's soccer team battled the Stetson Hatters to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener on Friday night at the Stetson Soccer Field.

The match marked the third time this season that KSU (4-1-2, 0-0-1 A-Sun) has played beyond regulation time and the first OT period.

The Owls found themselves in a rare position when they were trailing after the 12th minute at Stetson's (3-5-1, 0-0-1) Bethany Kiedis netted her second goal of the season after gathering the rebound from a deflected shot from Heather Berg. The goal ended the Owls' streak of 440 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

But Kennesaw State wouldn't be down for long as in the 16th minute Caitlin Dingle recorded her second goal of the year after gathering a loose ball and firing it past Hatters' goalkeeper April Eilering. After tying up the match, the momentum seemed to swing back in the Owls' favor.

KSU gained confidence and controlled the play in the first half, out-shooting Stetson 10-3. But as has been the story as of late, the Owls allowed key chances to pass them by and the teams went into halftime tied.

The Hatters defense buckled down in the second half, limited the Owls to six shots. Conversely, the Stetson offense found more opportunities firing nine shots. Neither team would find the back of the net, however, and the match continued after 90 minutes of play.

KSU's defense also made a great stand of its own and both teams traded possessions without anything of importance happening in the first extra period. Stetson managed to get off two shots in the second overtime but goalkeeper Staci Pugh was up to the task and secured the tied match.

Pugh ended the evening with six saves, while Elering made seven.

The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Macon to take on the Mercer Bears at 3:00 p.m.
