Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia Tech had four players score in double figures and forced 26 Kennesaw State turnovers as the Yellow Jackets downed the Lady Owls, 81-43, on Wednesday night at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

The Lady Owls (3-4) held their own in the first half, but the much bigger and more physical Georgia Tech (4-3) pulled away in the second half. KSU struggled with Tech's speed as the Yellow Jackets scored 49 second-half points to just the 19 put up by the Lady Owls.

Kennesaw State came out of the gates flat, only connecting on one of its first eight shots. Despite being down 11-2 just four-and-a-half minutes in, the Lady Owls hung tough and paced by the play of forward Stephanie Scearce, pulled within seven at 17-10 with 9:13 remaining in the first half.

But three straight Yellow Jacket jumpers and two free throws, as well as three subsequent KSU turnovers propelled Georgia Tech to a quick 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 25-10 with 7:24 to go in the first stanza.

KSU found a way to weather the storm and after a Jade Robinson three pointer and two free throws from Scearce the Lady Owls drew closer to make the score 25-15. A slew of missed shots from both teams dominated down the stretch, but Tech's Stephanie Higgs got a put-back lay-up at the buzzer to give the Yellow Jackets a 32-22 lead through twenty minutes of play.

Scearce led the Lady Owls with her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Blue Ridge, Georgia native finished 4-of-12 from the field and was 12-of-13 from the free throw line. Jennifer Baker chipped in nine points, while Jade Robinson finished with seven.

Tech was led by Higgs with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Leading scorer Janie Mitchell added 15, while Chioma Nnamaka and Jacqua Williams each had 14.

Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the basket, but Georgia Tech had the better go of it, finishing the game shooting 42.9 percent. Conversely, Kennesaw State shot just 26.1 percent, its second-lowest performance of the season.

KSU will take on its second straight ACC opponent when the Lady Owls travel Clemson on Sunday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. game.
