CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Chattanooga's Keddric Mays and reserve Kevin Bridgewaters combined for 35 points to lead the host Mocs to an 83-67 win over Kennesaw State in the first round of the Dr. Pepper Classic on Friday night.
Mays scored 18 points and Bridgewaters 17 and had a team-high seven assists for the Mocs (7-6), who shot 53.7 percent for the game.
Casey Long added 12 points for Chattanooga, who led 41-20 at halftime.
Kennesaw State (3-10) was led by Shuan Stegall with 24 points, Ronell Wooten with 14, Andre Morgan with 11 and Golden Ingle with 10.
The Mocs controlled the boards, as the Owls were out-rebounded for the third straight game, 41-30.
KSU will play Alabama State in the consolation game on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The Hornets fell to Colorado State, who advanced to the championship game with a 61-56 win in the tournament opener.
