Lady Owls Hold Off Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Kennesaw State women's basketball team jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead and hung on down the stretch as the Lady Owls beat Austin Peay, 56-49, on Tuesday night at Dave Aaron Arena.

KSU (4-6) came out of the gates slow as the Lady Govs (2-9) jumped out to an early 12-5 lead with 13:54 to go in the first half. But after missing six of their first eight shots, the Lady Owls couldn't miss at they put together a 16-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 21-12 lead.

The Lady Owls lead increased to as many 16 after Gia Lockett three-pointer and a Stephanie Scearce lay-up 1:54 remaining in the half. The Lady Govs got a lay-up from Nicole Jamen with less than thirty seconds to go to cut the lead to 14 heading into halftime.

The second half was a different story for Kennesaw State as Austin Peay recovered from its first half shooting woes, as the Lady Govs chipped away at the Lady Owls' lead. KSU led by 11 points after a DeAndrea Bullock jumper with 2:00 remaining, but APSU put together a quick 6-0 run to cut the lead to five with :35 to go. Led by Jade Robinson, the Lady Owls made their free throws down the stretch to escape with the seven-point victory.

Scearce led all players with 16 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing her second double-double of the season. Baker finished with 13 points while DeAndrea Bullock dropped in 10 to help the Lady Owls to their third road-win of the year.

Ashlee McGee and Kellea Reeves paced the Lady Govs with 10 points apiece. Alicia Watson pitched in eight for Austin Peay.

Kennesaw State will take a few days off for the holidays before returning to the court on December 29 when the Lady Owls take on UNC Asheville in the Mercer Blade Holiday Classic in Macon.
