Baker's 20 lead Lady Owls

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Jennifer Baker scored a game-high 20 points to lead Kennesaw State to its second straight win, 71-45, over Winthrop last night at the Winthrop Coliseum.

Kennesaw State (2-2) used a 13-0 run to end the first half as they overcame a three-point deficit to take a 29-19 lead into halftime.

After falling behind in the first minute, the Lady Owls stayed within striking distance throughout the half before Baker drained a pair of three-pointers in 37 seconds to give KSU its first lead of the night, 22-19, with 3:23 left in the half.

Jade Robinson (5-for-11), who scored a season-high 15 points, hit the second of five three-pointers to build the Lady Owls lead to six points. Kennesaw State would hit seven of 15 three-pointers in the first half.

After suffering from erratic outside shooting at times this season, KSU found the touch last night, finishing the game 11-for-25 from beyond the arc. For the game Kennesaw State (25-for-56) shot 45 percent from the field.

Ashley Johnson (6-for-10) scored 17 points including a pair of three- pointers while Ngoneh Gaye (3-for-7) added eight points while snatching 13 rebounds.

As hot as the Lady Owls were, the Eagles (2-4) were just as cold. Winthrop could only once manage to cut the Kennesaw State lead to single-digits, trimming the lead to nine points just over three-minutes into the second half.

From that point forward the Lady Owls increased their lead to 22 points as they hit seven of their next 12 shots while also making six foul shots to lead 57-37 with under eight minutes left in the game.

Kennesaw State out rebounded the Eagles, 36-31, and also shot a season-best 44.6 percent from the floor while also shooting 44 percent from three-point range. The Lady Owls held Winthrop to just 31 percent shooting and 17 percent from beyond the arc.

The Lady Owls continue their seven-game road trip as they visit Deland, Fla. to battle Stetson on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener.
