KENNESAW, Ga. - Alex Galindo hit a lay-up with 1:23 remaining and Elvis Lora hit two clutch free throws in the final 30 seconds as Florida International downed Kennesaw State, 70-68, at the KSU Convocation Center on Saturday evening.
In a game that saw 18 lead changes and 14 ties, KSU (1-4) managed to take a lead with 1:37 to go when Andre Morgan scored a lay-up and the subsequent foul shot to give the Owls a 66-65 lead. But Galindo came up big once again for FIU (3-3) and gave the Golden Panthers a 67-66 lead.
KSU had its chances to once again tie or take the lead, but arrant shots by Ronell Wooten and Golden Ingle passed the Owls by. Shuan Stegall had a chance to tie the game wityh :01 remaining but missed the front end of the one-and-one to preserve the two-point win for FIU.
The Owls placed three players in double-figures, led by Stegall with 19. Wooten ended the game with 18 points, while Ingle finished with a season-high 16.
Johwen Villegas led the Golden Panthers and all scorers with 23 points. The senior finished the game on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from behind the three-point line. Galindo was the only other Golden Panther to finish in double-figures with 14 points.
The Owls will end their three-game homestand as they take on Newberry College on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
