KENNESAW, Ga. - Lindsey Plotner had a nine kills and Asjia Stokes added seven kills and a block in the Owls, 3-0 (30-19, 30-25, 30-25), loss to Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
After a slow start in the first game, the Owls (1-16, 0-4 Atlantic Sun Conference) fought back and played the Dolphins tough before succumbing in three games.
Jacksonville (9-10, 1-1) jumped ahead of Kennesaw State early in the first game, scoring eight straight points to begin the match. However, the second and third games are where the Owls showed some spark.
The Owls kept within striking distance in the second game and came within four points at 21-17 before Jacksonville kept the Owls at arms length. A strong cross-court kill from Asjia Stokes made the score 24-40, however that was as close as Kennesaw State could get as Jacksonville ran off three straight points en route to a 30-25 win.
In the final game, the Owls took an early lead and were tied with Jacksonville at 4-4 before the Dolphins rattled off three straight points and six of the next seven points to build a 10-5 advantage.
Kennesaw State wasn't able to put more than two straight points together until late in the match when a spirited five-point rally cut a nine-point deficit to 24-20. After losing five of the next six points, the Owls regrouped for a final surge and ripped off four straight points to make the score 29-25 before a service error ended the match.
Sara Bendorf had a game-high 14 kills for Jacksonville. Una Dzalba had 19 assists and Amanda Youell added 12 for the Dolphins. Tara Dillon had 14 assists and six digs to lead the Owls.
The Owls will be back in action next Saturday afternoon when they travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to play East Tennessee State. KSU will be back home on Friday, October 20, when they play host to Lipscomb at 7:00 p.m.
