Belmont Hold Off Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State dropped their home finale on Saturday afternoon, falling to Belmont in three games (30-16, 30-24, 30-17) at the KSU Convocation Center.

After dropping the first game, 30-16, the Owls put forth a valiant effort in the second game. After being tied at three, Belmont ran (19-4, 6-1 A-Sun) off three consecutive points to build a 6-3 advantage.

Kennesaw State (1-19, 0-7) was able to mount a charge late in the second game, cutting a 26-18 deficit to 27-24 after taking six of seven points. The Owls rally was started on a kill recorded by Aaryn Phillips and culminated on a service ace by Ginny Frederick.

The third game was just too much Belmont as the Bruins scored the first point of the game and never trailed. The Owls and the bruins were tied at four before Belmont went on a 6-0 run to take control of the game.

Jenny Black led the Owls with 11 kills and 10 digs while Jasmine Ruiz had three blocks for Kennesaw State. Frederick had 21 assists. Cat Mundy had 11 kills for Belmont and Colleen Nilson had 34 assists.

The Owls will be back in action on Friday evening as they travel to Macon to play the Mercer Bears. Kennesaw State concludes the season on Saturday afternoon when they visit Florida to play Stetson.
