Box Score

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Freshman Bridget Gaughan scored her first collegiate goal as she propelled Kennesaw State to a 1-0 win over Campbell on Thursday night. The Owls has won five straight and stretch their unbeaten streak to ten matches.

KSU improves to 9-1-2 and sits tied with Setetson at 5-0-1 in the Atlantic Sun. Campbell falls 1-11-1 and 1-6-0 in league play.

Both teams spent the first 35 minutes of the match stringing together a couple of chances, but both goalkeepers were up to the task. But then, in the 37th minute, a Campbell clearing attempt found its way to Gaughan, whose low shot from 25 yards out found its way through heavy traffic and just inside the left post to give the Owls the game winner.

After the halftime break, the Owls offense really took shape as they fired 14 shots to Campbell's one. KSU narrowly missed extending the lead when in the 69th minute, an Annie Phillips shot squirted away from sprawling Campbell keeper Samar Azem to Caitlin Dingle on the right post. Dingle's rebound shot, however, was drilled directly into the chest of Azem, who recovered just in time to keep the Camels within a goal.

Campbell's best scoring opportunity came with 17 minutes remaining, when Jenna Sullivan bent a shot towards the right post but was denied by a leaping Staci Pugh.

Pugh denied all four shots that came her way in the match and secured her conference-leading eighth shutout of the season. Azem recorded eight saves in the losing effort for the Camels.

The Owls will play their final road test of the season when they travel to Gardner Webb on Saturday afternoon. First kick is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
