Owls Soar Over Bobcats, 73-56

6/30/2005 12:00:00 AM

Kennesaw, Georgia - Four players scored in double digits as No. 16 Kennesaw State University flew past Georgia College and State University 73-56 at the Spec Landrum Centre on Wednesday night.

The Owls, who were upset on the road by Augusta State on Saturday, rebounded by shooting 50 percent from the floor for the game. Rey Luque led the team with 13 points, while Kevin McDonald added 11. Freshman Ronell Wooten and Cardale Talley each scored 10 points for the defending Division II national champions.

Kennesaw State improves to 14-3 on the year and 4-2 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Bobcats fall to 10-8, 2-5.

Kennesaw trailed by a point in the early going before the Owls went on a 10-2 run to take control of the game. The Owls would never trail from that point on, building their lead to as many as 17 twice in the first half, both times on baskets by Jeff Vaughn. KSU led 37-22 at the end of the fist half, and the Owls were never threatened after the intermission.

While the Owls were having a good night shooting, the Bobcats struggled from the field. Georgia College managed just 38 percent shooting overall, and the Bobcats were especially off the mark from behind the 3-point line. GC&SU was 0-9 from behind the arc in the first half, and finished hitting on just 3-of-20 3-pointers.

The 14-3 start for the Owls is the best in school history through 17 games, better even than last year's team that danced through the NCAA tournament.

KSU will play again Saturday January 29 conference foe Francis Marion at 4 p.m.
