COLUMBUS, Georgia - Kennesaw State head coach, and soon to be Hall of Famer,
Scott Whitlock will achieve yet another milestone this afternoon as he will coach in his 1000th game as head coach of the Owls as Kennesaw State takes the field against rival Columbus State.
Whitlock began the softball program at Kennesaw State when he coached the, then slow pitch team from 1989 through 1990. Beginning in 1991 when the Owls played in the NAIA, he initiated the fastpitch program.
After moving Kennesaw State to the NCAA Division II status in 1995, Whitlock and his Owls won back-to-back national championships and he now stands as the NCAA's winningest coach.
Over the past 999 games, fastpitch and slow pitch included, Whitlock has compiled an 872-127 record for an .873 winning percentage.
Whitlock has been dominant over his career, beginning in the slow pitch era when he compiled a 153-15 record for a .911 winning percentage. During the Owls NAIA years, he had an .859 winning percentage with a 176-29 record and currently, in KSU's last season of Division II, he has put together an NCAA record of 543-83 for a .867 winning percentage.
Earlier this season in Hawaii, Whitlock reached another milestone when he won his 700th fastpitch game. The Owls defeated Hawaii Pacific, 4-2, in the second game of a doubleheader.
