Greenville, SC - All-American Joseph Mutai and former PBC Freshman of the Year Jason Waters finished 1-2 for Kennesaw State as the Owls captured their fourth consecutive Peach Belt Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning.
The Owls (6-0, 42-9 overall), who won their 10th conference crown in 11 years, dominated the race as they finished ahead of runner-up Clayton State (68) by 45 points. Each of Kennesaw State's top five runners finished in the top ten as the Owls finished the race with 23 points.
North Florida (3rd) and Columbus State (4th) were the only other squads to have two runners finish in the top ten. However, neither team could challenge the Owls as KSU had built a nearly insurmountable lead after four of the top six runners who finished were from Kennesaw State.
"It was a great race and a great day for Kennesaw State," said elated KSU head coach Stan Sims. "From beginning to end, this was one of the best all-around races we have had."
Lukasz Skrzypiec finished 4th, Landon Taylor finished 6th and Kennedy Kitur rounded out the scoring with a 10th place finish. The KSU juggernaut were so effective in the race that their 6th and 7th place runners, Piotr Kaszkur and Albert Mokaya, both finished in the top twenty finishing 14th and 20th respectively.
The championship is the tenth in 11 years for Kennesaw State who has won all but four of the 14 conference titles.
