KENNESAW, Georgia - October 3, 2005 - The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Georgia Bulldogs highlight the 2006 slate as the Kennesaw State Owls baseball team announced their 2006 baseball schedule.
The Owls, who are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference, will playing their first season of Division I competition and have a schedule that features teams from many of the top conferences in the nation.
Kennesaw State will playing teams from six of the most competitive conferences in the nation, the Atlantic Coast Conference (Georgia Tech), Southeastern Conference (Georgia), Pac Ten (Washington State), Big Twelve (Missouri), Sun Belt (Troy) and Conference USA (Alabama-Birmingham).
The season begins with six road games, including a season opening doubleheader on February 11 when KSU plays the Washington State Cougars and the Missouri Tigers. The Owls then head to Atlanta to play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a weekend series, February 17-19.
"We are very excited about schedule this season," said Kennesaw State head coach Mike Sansing. "We are playing what we consider to be some of the best teams in the nation."
The Owls schedule will also feature a pair of games against the Georgia Bulldogs. The teams will meet on March 14 in Athens and then again on May 16 in Rome, Georgia.
"We're happy that Georgia and Georgia Tech could get us on the schedule this season," added Sansing. "Playing against two great teams means a lot to our program. We put an emphasis on in state games and these will be five big ones."
In addition to tough non-conference schedule, the Owls will play their first season in the Atlantic Sun Conference where they will be eligible for a regular season crown.
Kennesaw State will host five weekend series against A-Sun teams, beginning with Gardner-Webb on March 10-11. The Owls will also host Mercer on March 24-25, East Tennessee State on April 7-8, Belmont on April 14-15 and Jacksonville on May 6-7.
The Owls will play 23 home games this season, six night games and 17 day games. The Owls will also play six Saturday afternoon doubleheaders this season. Senior Day is slated for Saturday, May 6 against Jacksonville.
Opening Day will be on February 22 when the Owls host Alabama-Birmingham at 4:00 p.m. The home season ends on May 17 against Jacksonville State.
KSU will play six Saturday games, four Friday games, three games on Tuesday, three games on Wednesday and one Sunday afternoon game, May 7 against Jacksonville.
