One of the newest teams at Kennesaw State, the volleyball program has made great strides to become one of the flagship programs in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Owls have reached the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships in all three seasons they have been eligible beginning in 2009.
The 2010 campaign was a banner season for the Owls, finishing in second place in the A-Sun while setting a new program mark for winning percentage in conference play (.900). Senior Sabrita Gulley became KSU’s first A-Sun First Team All-Conference honoree, while Karen Weatherington became the first African-American to win the A-Sun’s Volleyball Coach of the Year award.
The 2011 season was just as special as season’s past. The Owls reached the A-Sun Championships for their third straight season, while senior Justine Young became the first KSU player to clear the 400-kill plateau. In addition, fellow senior Alyssa Lang became the first player to reach the 1,000-kill/1,000-dig mark while wearing a KSU uniform.
The future is just as bright for the Owls. Fan interest is at an all-time high on the KSU campus in volleyball, as evidenced by the over 1,200 students and fans who attended their Sept. 20 match against Georgia State, setting an Owls volleyball attendance record. A solid foundation has been laid for future Owls to build upon, and the program is ready to soar to new heights.
