The Kennesaw State women’s golf team has emerged as one of the top programs in the nation as head coach Rhyll Brinsmead’s team entered the 2010-11 campaign ranked 68th in the nation. After a runner-up performance at the 2010 Atlantic Sun Championship and a third place finish in 2011, the squad is ready to step up to the next level and surface as the team to beat in the conference.
Competing in the nation’s toughest and most prolific tournaments, the Black and Gold have solidified a spot atop the annual Golfstat rankings. Leading the charge for the Owls is junior Ket Preamchuen, a two-time All A-Sun honoree. Preamchuen has set almost every individual record for the Owls and is joined by sophomore and fellow All A-Sun honoree Hayley Clinning, and a recruiting class of two highly touted freshmen in Léa Charpier and Minami Levonowich.
In 2010 the team captured their first team title in the program’s history with a win at the Palmetto Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C., after posting a 282-298-295=875, +11 and look to add a couple more to their resume by the conclusion of the 2012 spring season.
The squad opened their spring campaign at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., Feb. 10-14, before traveling to New Orleans to participate in the All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational, then heading back to Florida to compete in the Hurricane Invitational. The Owls will conclude the regular season at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate on Mar. 15-18 at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., before entering postseason play at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships in DeLand, Fla. on April 7-11.
As a team on the rise, this squad has its sights set on broadening its name at the NCAA Regionals and earn a trip to the Women’s 31st Annual NCAA Championship held on May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
