After serving four years under head coach Mike Sansing from 2013-16, Trey Fowler was named the Assistant Coach, announced on Sept. 6, 2016 and now enters his fourth season in that role, ninth overall at Kennesaw State, and 17th in College Baseball. Â
During the past five seasons, the Owls offense has improved steadily culminating in by leading the ASUN in Average, Homeruns, Extra Base Hits, and Hits Per-Game in 2019 and Runs, Hits, and Average in 2020. Under Fowler's direction the 2019 Offense also ranked top 5 in Program History in Average, Homeruns, and Slugging Percentage.Â
Fowler came to Kennesaw State in 2012 after eight seasons at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia as well as a short stint at Georgia Perimeter Junior College in Covington, Georgia. Fowler began his coaching career at Truett as the Head Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator in 2005 before finishing his time at TMC with a brief stint as the Interim Head Coach in 2012.
While with KSU, Fowler has helped immensely in the day-to-day operations under head coach Mike Sansing.Â
Fowler completed his fifth season, and first as a full-time assistant, with the Owls in 2017, and added to his list of accolades and accomplishments. He helped guide KSU to the semifinals of the ASUN Championships, finishing third in the conference. Under his guidance, the Owls had four players selected in the 2017 MLB Draft (Tony Dibrell, Austin Upshaw, Mason Ward, and Gabe Friese), and had six ASUN All-Conference selections.
In his fourth season with the Owls in 2016, Fowler helped Kennesaw State to a 17-4 mark in ASUN action, which led the Owls to their first ASUN regular season conference championship in program history. The dominant season saw KSU win all seven of their regular season series – marking the first time a team in the ASUN has done that since 2010.
Arguably his most memorable year in coaching came in 2014, helping lead the Owls on their historic run, bringing home the school's first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Championship as well as the NCAA Division I Tallahassee Regional Title.
In his career, Fowler has a track record of recruiting quality student athletes including 63 All Conference/Region performers, four Rawlings Gold Glove winners, seven All Americans, and one Region Pitcher of the Year. In addition, Fowler coached three conference batting champions, three defensive players of the year, and helped lead the 2009 TMC team to the GJCAA Final Four. While at TMC, his 2010 team ranked 19th in the NAIA in team batting average, while his 2012 pitching staff ranked number one in the country.
Prior to moving to the Full-Time Assistant Role in 2016, Fowler spent his summers coaching one of the nation's most prestigious academic summer teams as he served as the Head Coach of the 17U East Cobb Patriots. Under his direction over a decade, the Patriots saw over 100 players go on to college baseball while placing high in several national tournaments including a playoff appearance in the 2012 18U WWBA National Championship. During his coaching career Fowler has had the privilege of coaching and aiding in the development of twenty-seven MLB draft picks, including first rounders James Ramsey (St. Louis Cardinals, 2012) and Max Pentecost (Toronto Blue Jays, 2014).
As a player, Fowler served as a LHP/1B/DH at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia under the direction of Head Coach Jim Peeples. During his time at Piedmont, Fowler earned accolades as a three-time academic all-conference performer while helping lead the 2002 and 2003 teams to NCCAA World Series appearances. Fowler closed out his career in 2004 helping lead Piedmont to its first ever Conference Tournament Championship.
Fowler is originally from Morrow, GA. He earned his BA degree in Broad Field Social Science from Piedmont in 2004 and his MBA from Piedmont in 2007 and currently resides in Acworth, Ga. with his wife, Molly, and his daughter Kensleigh.
