Previewing Gardner-Webb
Winners of five straight and coming off an impressive 42-28 win at Liberty, Kennesaw State (5-1) remains in Big South play welcoming Gardner-Webb (1-5) to The Nest Saturday for a conference clash at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Runnin' Bulldogs enter Saturday with an 0-2 all-time mark against the Owls, coming back to Kennesaw, Ga., where KSU beat Gardner-Webb 12-7 in 2015 for its historic first Big South victory during the inaugural season. The Owls went on to defeat the Runnin' Bulldogs in 2016 in Boiling Springs, 47-39. The dual-threat quarterback Tyrell Maxwell is under center for the Bulldogs again this year after finishing last year leading the team in both passing and rushing yards. He was named Big South Offensive Preseason Player of the Year. One of Maxwell's passing targets, junior Kyle Horton, will attempt to make some noise catching the ball this year after 278 yard season last year. Defensively, inside linebacker Corey Horne will take charge of the Bulldog's defense. He finished with 55 total tackles with 33 solo and 22 assisted. The Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-6 last year and a conference record of 3-2. The game will be shown on ESPN3 and can be heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 106.3 The Fan 2 at 7 p.m.
