Kennesaw, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team finished with a 1-1 draw against Emory on a cold, rainy Tuesday night.
Emory got on the board early in the first with a goal from Melissa Ardizzone to take a 1-0 lead.
The Owls couldn't get on the board in the first half, but had plenty of chances. KSU had 15 shots with five of those being on net forcing Liz Arnold of Emory to make the saves.
In the second half, the Owls continued to put pressure on the Eagles, and finally got a shot to go when Monica Herrera hit a beautiful cross that was headed home by Jackie Gray to even the score at one.
Both team's had some chances in the final minutes of regulation, but the game ended up going to overtime.
In overtime, the Eagles threatened the most in the first forcing Ashley Zambetti to make one save and hitting the crossbar on another shot.
The Owls got a shot in the second OT, but couldn't muster a goal to get the win.
The Owls will return to action on ESPN3 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in the A-Sun Tournament. The No. 4-seeded Owls will take on No. 5 Stetson at 2 p.m. Friday (Oct. 30) afternoon.
Coach King on Senior Night against Emory
I think a few of the players were looking ahead to Friday night against Stetson. You don't want to see that, but we weren't very good tonight. We weren't very clinical. We had a lot of shots, but the decision making wasn't great. We did well to get back in the game because we did generate a lot. It was a good header by Jackie to equalize it. We dominated, but we just needed to be a little more clinical.
Kennesaw State Head Coach Rob King
- It was senior night for Hannah Churchill. In the game, she had four shots with one of them on goal.
- The goal by Jackie Gray was the first of her career.
- The assist was Monica Herrera's first of the season. It gives her five points on the season as she has two goals this season.
- The Owls finished with 26 shots on goal and nine of those were on frame. Emory had 15 shots and put four of them on frame.
