Gold Takes Opener of World Series

Cody Lodge gets two hits to lift Gold Team

KENNESAW, Ga. – In the annual Black and Gold World Series, the Gold Team defeated the Black Team, 4-2, at Stillwell Stadium as the three-game series marks the official end of the fall season.

The Gold Team was lead by Cody Lodge who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and run batted in. Zach Griffith (1-0) got the win, throwing two innings of scoreless relief while allowing just one hit. Ren Buttram picked up the save as he allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.

While the Black Team hit the ball well in the opening game of the best two-out-of-three series, it was a lack of clutch hitting that put them behind in the series. Chris Wages who singled, doubled and drove in two runs led the Black Team while senior captain Tyler Stubblefied had a pair of hits and a stolen base. Kyle LaChance also added two hits and had a stolen base.

Sean Fream started for the Black Team but did not figure in the decision. The right-hander as he pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while getting two strikeouts. Cat Kendrick (0-1) took the loss for the Gold Team as he lasted an inning and one-third while surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.

The second game of the series is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium with the third and final game of the series to be played on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
