JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Kennesaw State Owls concluded the 2007 season with a, 7-0, loss at the hands of Atlantic Sun Conference regular season co-champions, East Tennessee State, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls (4-18, 0-9 A-Sun) fell behind, 1-0, after doubles play as ETSU won all three matches. The Lady Bucs No. 2 doubles team of Elena Volobueva and Yevgeniya Stupak defeated Karen Ammann and Carolina Page, 8-2.
The No. 1 combination of Masha Ilina and Olya Batsula clinched the point with an 8-2 win over Mercedes Cobos and Giselle Nakakura. Tara Byrne and Brittany Stewart then defeated the Owls' Jeni Thomas and Lindsey Whalen by an 8-2 score.
ETSU (14-9, 8-1 A-Sun) won all six singles matches with Illina and Stupak quickly delivering 6-0, 6-0 wins. Stupak gave the Lady Bucs a 2-0 advantage with a win at No. 2 over Nakakura while Illina downed Cobos at No. 1 singles.
Lindsey Whalen played tough at No 6 singles, pushing Vita Moskliova throughout the second set before falling, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Batsula downed Amman, 6-1 and 6-1, while Byrne beat Thomas 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 position. Volobueva stopped Page 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 singles slot.
