Since joining the ranks of Division I, Kennesaw State has upgraded and added many new facilities to support their 16 varsity sports.
Most recently, the Owls have added the finishing touches on a brand new outdoor track and field facility, just the second such facility in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Adjacent to KSU Stadium, the track consists of an eight lane 48” Rekortan M99 track that meets IAAF and NCAA specifications. There are three pits for long and triple jump, as well as pole vaulting and javelin runways, and gives the men’s and women’s track and field team the ability to practice and prepare for competition right on campus.
KSU Stadium, which opened in 2010 and seats 8,300 fans while having luxury suites, media and training rooms, is the home of the Owls women’s soccer team and is the future home of Owls women’s lacrosse beginning in 2013. The stadium has already played host to several world-renowned sporting events, including the 2011 NCAA Women’s College Cup, the Final Four of women’s soccer.
The Owls men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams enjoy the close atmosphere created by the KSU Convocation Center. The facility opened in 2005 and has been the site of some of the most memorable events in the history of Owls athletics. Most recently, the “Convo” welcomed a record-breaking 4,991 fans to cheer on the Owls this past season against Atlantic Sun Conference rival Mercer, the same night that the brand-new Kennesaw State fight song. A similar crowd saw the men’s basketball team take down Georgia Tech just a year earlier, a victory that garnered national attention for the program. A hospitality suite overlooking the action makes it easy for large groups to host an event. Further enhancing the fan experience, the Convocation Center will also boast a brand new video board beginning in the fall of 2012.
The baseball and softball teams compete on-campus at Stillwell Stadium and Bailey Park, respectively, which are both part of the Bobbie Bailey Athletic Complex. The complex has seen the Owls compete in contests against the likes of Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee, while both fields played host to NAIA and NCAA Division II postseason events in the past. The Bailey Complex is a one-stop shop for everything Owls baseball and softball, housing expansive locker rooms as well as weight and training rooms. An indoor hitting and pitching facility that can serves both programs opened at the beginning of the 2010 season, allowing the squads to practice year-round, rain or shine.
The Owls men’s and women’s golf teams have a unique opportunity to practice both indoors and outdoors. Both teams have access to five different premier golf courses minutes from campus. In addition, the Owls can also practice indoors in their indoor practice facility with hitting corridors, contoured greens and cutting-edge putting and swing analysis technology.
Kennesaw State men’s and women’s tennis practices on newly-renovated courts on campus, just across from the Convocation Center. Updated in 2007, the courts were resurfaced and made over with new nets, stands and signage. These courts are open for use by the public and for intramurals.
