Entering the 2012 campaign as one of the top teams from the southeastern region and coming off of a second place finish in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the men’s cross coun¬try team returns the bulk of their squad in the quest of a third conference title in four years.

Returning to the squad is 2011 All-Conference honoree Nabil Hamid, who became the first Owl to make an appearance in the NCAA Cross Country Championship, earning All-South Region honors on the way there. Hamid, a senior, the Black and Gold will also welcome back fellow veteran Ryan Burruss, who also made All-South Region honors in 2011 to go along with All A-Sun honors.

Success is a tradition when it comes to Owls Cross Country, starting back in the mid-1990’s when legendary coach Stan Sims led the Black and Gold to 10 men’s cross country championships in the Peach Belt Conference, as well as a pair of National Top-10 finishes at the NCAA Division II level. That success has continued at the highest level of competition, as the Owls have not finished worse than fourth in the A-Sun since joining the league in 2005.

Under the new leadership of Andy Eggerth and distance specialist Ryan Wagner, Owls cross country has a bright future, one the team intends to run towards head-first.
