Phil Zenoni helped found the Kennesaw State men's basketball program, taking over as the first head coach in program history during the Owls' inaugural season in 1985-86. Zenoni led the Owls for 11 seasons, transitioning them from the NAIA to Division II during the 1994-95 season. After KSU's initial season, Zenoni led the Owls to eight straight appearances in the NAIA postseason tournament, including a berth in the 1993 NAIA National Championship. The Marietta, Ga., native earned NAIA District 25 Coach of the Year accolades in 1987 and 1989 as well as Georgia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Coach of the Year honors in 1991. Zenoni finished his tenure with an overall record of 166-156, the second winningest head coach in program history. He led the Owls to their first 20-win season in 1991-92, finishing 21-10, logging two of KSU's seven total 20-win seasons in program history during his career. Zenoni mentored eight NAIA All-District selections, four NAIA All-Region honorees, six all-conference recipients and one NAIA District All-Freshman Team member. Not to be overlooked in his time at KSU is Zenoni's one-year stint as the men's golf head coach during the 1985-86 season. Under his leadership, the team finished the year as the NAIA District Champions, ranking 10th in the country.
