Hired as the director of student activities in 1956 to direct the school's sports activities and oversee dormitory life as the assistant to the dean of students; left in 1972 after serving in several roles over 16 years; Coach of the Year in 1969 for men's basketball; head coach of the American Legion Post 29 baseball club from Marietta in the 1960s/early 1970s.
