KENNESAW, Ga. – The Big South Conference announced its 2020 preseason accolades on Tuesday, with Kennesaw State named the league's preseason favorite, while eight players earned preseason All-Conference honors, including
Bryson Armstrong as the Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season.
Â
The Owls were voted as the preseason favorite for the fourth straight season and currently hold the second-longest streak in conference history as the preseason favorite, sitting only behind Liberty's five-year run from 2007-2011.
Â
In search of its third Big South Conference championship in the last four seasons and its fourth consecutive FCS Playoffs appearance, Kennesaw State is looking to join Coastal Carolina as the only programs in league history to make the playoffs in four consecutive seasons.
Â
Kennesaw State has dominated the Big South during the last three years, winning 15 of its last 16 conference games and doing so by a 26.8 average margin of victory.
Â
Armstrong continues to collect hardware, as the decorated linebacker enters his senior campaign as the only player in Big South Conference history to be named a Preseason Player of the Year three times. The Former Jerry Rice Award winner is coming off a 2019 season where he was a consensus All-American and led the Owls with 95 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Â
He was surprisingly the only KSU player to earn preseason honors on the defensive side of the ball from a unit that ranked No. 3 in the country last season in total defense and returns seven starters.
Â
To go along with Armstrong as a first team selection, running back
Isaac Foster returns after an injury-shortened sophomore campaign and looks to get back to his dominate ways in the back field. He averaged an astounding 14.9 yards per carry in seven games, rushing for 508 yards and four touchdowns.
Â
Five offensive linemen in the league earned first team honors, and three of them hail from Kennesaw State.
Chris Dye,
Jake Lassiter and
William Nana Fabu were all named first team after helping pave the way for the No. 1 rushing attach in the country last season. The Owls rushed for 342.4 yards per game, a program record 58 rushing touchdowns and allowing just 10 sacks on the year to rank No. 3 in the country.
Â
Four players were named preseason All-Conference honorable mention, as
Shaquil Terry picked up the honor at running back,
Demetrius Pettway at defensive back,
Nicholas Jones at punter and Foster at kick return and punt return.
