KENNESAW – Kennesaw State junior QB
Chandler Burks has been named Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following an impressive performance in Saturday's 28-0 win at Presbyterian.
Burks, a Douglasville, Ga., native, finished Saturday with four touchdowns accounted for (three rushing, one passing) to tie a school record set last season by
Trey White. Burks rolled up 171 all-purpose yards (93 passing, 78 rushing) to help guide the Owls (7-1, 3-0) to their school-record seventh-straight win.
The junior quarterback rushed the ball 14 times and completing 5-for-11 passes. Burks' two-yard touchdown rush with 8:43 remaining in the first half gave KSU a 7-0 lead it never surrendered, followed by a 17-yard strike to junior RB
Jake McKenzie on the ensuing drive to make it 14-0 before the half. Burks continued his strong play with a two-yard touchdown run and a one-yard score over the first two possessions in the second half to make it 28-0.
Kennesaw State's 7-1 start is a program-best and its 3-0 start in conference play is also a program record. The Owls fly out west to take on Montana State in their final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET (12 p.m. MT). The game can be seen on Peachtree TV or heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 106.3.
