Andre Dorsey Atlantic Sun Highlights

KENNESAW, Ga. –
Junior Andre Dorsey has been named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after his strong performance at the Indoor Atlantic Sun Championships.

"It's an extreme blessing to be awarded this honor," Dorsey said. "It's always refreshing to see your hard work and determination pay off. The marks that I've hit this year are the ones I was dreaming about jumping my freshman year, and now that I have got them, everything feels so surreal. I'm really excited to be going to New Mexico to represent my school and city in three events. Luckily, I am at a school with unbelievable coaches and an amazing athletic staff. They have given me every opportunity I could possibly ask for to be successful in the community, classroom, and on the track. My team and coaches have always been there to support me and push me to be the best student, athlete, and man I can be. With my team behind me, my coaches in front leading the way, and God above me, I can't go wrong. I just have to keep my feet grounded, my eyes forward, and keep reaching for the stars."

Dorsey is the only athlete in the nation currently ranked top 10 nationally in three different events. He is third in the triple jump with a jump of 16.27m (53'2.25"), tied for sixth in the high jump after clearing 2.23m (7'3.75m"), and seventh in the long jump with a jump of 7.76m (25'5.5").

"It's great to see Andre receive this recognition," Director of Track and Field Andy Eggerth said. "Andre is one of those rare individuals that is supremely talented, a hard worker, and is coachable. This is the result when one has character, work ethic, and God given ability. I'm just glad to see it come together for him. Hopefully, this foreshadows great things in a couple weeks at the NCAA Championships!"

Dorsey was named the Most Valuable Performer at the A-Sun Championships after accumulating 38 points at the meet with three gold medals in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump and a silver medal in the shot put. The long jump and high jump marks were both conference records.

Next up, Dorsey will be competing at the Indoor NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 14-15.
